Up at the crack of dawn this morning to support the fight for life. A caravan of SUV's, sedans and even a church bus traveled down I26 at 8:00 a.m. to show support for SC bill H3114 presented for debate and vote in the SC State House in Columbia.
Prior to the bill coming up for consideration we gathered outside the assembly room calling out individual representatives to talk with us concerning their position on this legislation. Another lobbying experience. Not really within my comfort zone but worth the effort.
H3114 is the bill forbidding abortions in SC past 20 weeks gestation based on medical evidence of fetal pain at that point. A "no brainer" for those of us who believe in the sanctity of human life from conception and would welcome the abolishment of Roe vs. Wade in its entirety. Passage would just be a small step toward that goal.
The "debate" on the house floor was mind boggling. My head was ready to explode from frustration and anger as those who opposed this bill made arguments totally unrelated to the bill's content. Talk of rape, incest, a woman's right to control her own body, defective fetus's etc........issues worth discussion but having zero to do with H3114. Some representatives brought up problems with medicaid and welfare......what does that have to do with a defenseless life inside the womb being dismembered????
After the torture of misguided rhetoric the vote finally came and the bill passed!Victory! Now on to the Senate!!!
Mentally exhausted it was a frozen pizza dinner and unraveling from an emotional day.
Praising God for today's success. Praying for closed minds to be opened......
